President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Ms. Adedayo Benjamin Laniyi as the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development, while also constituting the Governing Council of the Centre with Princess Joan Jummai Idonije as Chairman.
The appointments, announced in a statement issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, take effect from April 18, 2026, for an initial term of four years.
According to the statement signed by the Head of Information and Public Relations, Chris Ugwuegbulam, the appointment was conveyed in a letter signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and issued by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana.
The statement noted that the appointment was made in accordance with the provisions of Section 7 (1) and (3) of the National Centre for Women Development (Amendment) Act, 2023.
Other members of the newly constituted Governing Council are Ms. Lois Auta, Hon. Jamila Sarki, Aisha Baiyee, Hon. Jumoke Okoya-Thomas, and Hon. Princess Anne Agom-Eze.
The appointments are expected to strengthen the Centre’s mandate of promoting women empowerment, gender inclusion, leadership development, and socio-economic advancement for women across Nigeria.
The Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development remains one of the country’s foremost institutions dedicated to advancing policies and programmes aimed at improving the welfare and development of women.
President Tinubu congratulated Ms. Laniyi and members of the Governing Council on their appointments and wished them success in the discharge of their duties.
