Dr. Sandra Duru, popularly known as Prof. Mgbeke, has announced her decision to abstain from further public commentary regarding the ongoing legal proceedings involving suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. In a public notice, Dr. Duru emphasized her commitment to the due process, stating that the matter is now before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and should be allowed to proceed without external influence.
Dr. Duru’s involvement in the controversy began after she publicly criticized Senate President Godswill Akpabio, GCON, based on representations made by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan. However, upon requesting and not receiving credible evidence to support those claims, Dr. Duru conducted an independent investigation, leading her to reassess her stance.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has made serious allegations against Senate President Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, accusing them of plotting to eliminate her. Both Akpabio and Bello have vehemently denied these allegations and have taken legal action against Akpoti-Uduaghan for defamation, urging law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute her for criminal defamation and incitement.
In response to Dr. Duru’s claims, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan dismissed them as false and manipulated, asserting that Dr. Duru was acting on behalf of Senate President Akpabio . She maintains her allegations and has challenged Akpabio to sue her, expressing readiness to present her evidence in court .
Dr. Duru concluded her statement by affirming her right to defend her integrity against any defamatory content published against her, while urging all parties to exercise restraint and allow the courts to determine the truth.
As the legal proceedings unfold, the public awaits the court’s verdict on these serious allegations that have captivated national attention.
