A Nigerian woman, Chi Uzoma, has attained the rank of captain in the United States Army, marking another milestone in her military career.
Uzoma announced her promotion in a post on X on Sunday, where she expressed gratitude to God for the journey and opportunities that culminated in her latest achievement.
Sharing a photograph of herself in uniform, she wrote: “Today, I proudly wear the rank of CAPTAIN. The journey has been nothing short of a blessing, and I’m deeply grateful to God for every opportunity that has brought me to this moment.”
The promotion represents a significant progression for Uzoma, who only in March 2026 announced her elevation to the rank of sergeant.
Celebrating the earlier milestone, she wrote: “Got promoted to Sergeant today. Grateful to God for the journey, the lesson, and challenges that led to this moment. Proud to wear these stripes.”
Her latest achievement highlights the career progression of a Nigerian woman in the US military, coming just months after her previous promotion.
Uzoma’s advancement also comes amid growing public attention on Nigerians and people of Nigerian descent pursuing military careers in the United States.
In a related development, Nollywood actor Joseph Momodu announced his enlistment in the United States Army about two months ago.
Momodu described joining the US military as the fulfilment of a long-held ambition and a tribute to his late father, who served in the Nigeria Police Force.
Reflecting on his military training, the actor said the experience tested his physical and emotional resilience, with months of intensive training, isolation and demanding routines.
“From inception, I have always believed in achievements earned through merit, which is why I constantly push myself beyond limits,” he said.
He added that the achievement was “forged through tears, fear of failure, resilience, endless days, short nights, fatigue, rain, and the scorching sun.”
For Uzoma, the latest promotion adds another chapter to a journey that has seen her move from sergeant to captain within months, as she continues her career in the US Army.
