Women’s Month Spotlight – Celebrating Women Giving to Gain

Today’s spotlight celebrates Nigerian women embodying the nation’s strength, Former First Lady Aisha Buhari, Current First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, and Minister Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, reflecting “Give to Gain” for all women across Nigeria.

Woman of Impact: Aisha Buhari

As Nigeria’s former First Lady, Aisha Buhari used her platform to advocate for the health, education, and empowerment of women and children. Through her Future Assured Programme, she championed maternal and child healthcare, supported cancer awareness campaigns, and promoted girl-child education across the country.

Her initiatives focused on improving access to medical services, providing scholarships for disadvantaged children, and empowering women through skills acquisition programmes. These efforts helped many women gain economic independence and strengthen their families’ livelihoods.

Woman of Impact: Oluremi Tinubu

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is widely recognised for her long-standing commitment to social development, women’s empowerment, and education. Before assuming her current role, she served three terms in the Senate, where she advocated policies supporting youth development, education, and gender inclusion.

Through her Renewed Hope Initiative, she continues to champion programmes focused on economic empowerment for women, support for vulnerable families, and improved opportunities for young people. Her work has also emphasised social welfare, education, and national unity.

With decades of experience in public service and community development, Oluremi Tinubu remains a strong voice for inclusive development and women’s participation in leadership, helping to shape policies and initiatives that improve the wellbeing of Nigerians.

Woman of Impact: Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim

Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim is a dynamic Nigerian leader recognised for advancing humanitarian protection, security reform, and gender equality. Before becoming Nigeria’s Minister of Women Affairs, she served as Director-General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and later led the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons.

In these roles, she championed reforms to strengthen Nigeria’s response to human trafficking and improve protection systems for displaced and vulnerable populations. Her leadership contributed to policies and programmes supporting millions of Nigerians affected by displacement and exploitation.

As Minister of Women Affairs, she continues to advocate for gender inclusion, economic empowerment for women, and stronger protection for vulnerable groups, reinforcing her reputation as a reform-driven public servant committed to transformative leadership.
